Sat, 6 February 2010 A few years ago the Disney Company came out with an interactive plush Mickey Mouse called "Pal Mickey", Pal Mickey was deigned to actually interact, or react to electronic signals in the Disney parks, so if you were in Epcot he would tell you about things in Epcot, if you were at the Magic Kingdom he would share facts about that park and so on. While this pull string toy from 1976 is no where NEAR being up to THAT level of technology, it is an interesting parallel to think of this as a sort of precursor to that is some (tiny) way, and thought provoking as to how far the technology we would devote to something that is "just a toy" has advanced. Wed, 2 December 2009 This Episode was recorded late in my December 2008 trip to Walt Disney World, this was after Mousefest, and it was also the one day that my wife, Carlene, chose to join me in the parks. Since she had been in a lot of pain when walking for a while leading up to the trip she used an ECV this day, which worked out well as otherwise I would have not been able to cover so much ground going back and forth around World Showcase. I had a schedule for the World Showcase Players and knew coming into the park when they were performing, butwhat I did not know was which times were for thier "regular material" and which sets they would be doing thier special Holiday skit A Christmas Carol. So when they did their first set of the day I was there but they were performing King Arthur and the Holy Grail so we got the set times for A Christmas Carol and continued on our way. Working our way all the way around to Mexico before putting it into reverse and working our way back to the United Kingdom for this afternoon set. ![]() Comments[0] |
Sun, 29 November 2009 This Episode was recorded early in my December 2008 trip to Walt Disney World, this was the "split day" of Mousefest, in fact this was the last thing I did before leaving Disney's Animal Kingdom for Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Sat, 28 November 2009 This Episode was recorded on the last day of my December 2008 trip to Walt Disney World, Mousefest was over, and I decided to end this trip in the same park in which I started the trip, enjoying some of the great live entertainment found in the Magic Kingdom. This was one of many Christmas oriented sets I recorded last year that I didn't manage to get out before Christmas.

This Episode was recorded on the last day of my December 2008 trip to Walt Disney World, Mousefest was over, and I decided to end this trip in the same park in which I started the trip, enjoying some of the great live entertainment found in the Magic Kingdom. In particular I wanted to catch a special set by the Main Street Philharmonic, comprised completely of songs from Disney movies, I had recorded the same set a few days previous with mixed results, and with the experience I gained with my new recording device this set came out much better. links

Thu, 25 December 2008 I really enjoyed my recent trip to WDW, there were MANY bits of Christmas related audio I wanted to get out before the actual date of Christmas, but due to limitations of time I had to choose just one, and knowing that it HAD TO BE this one. I am QUITE pleased with how this came out, and hope you enjoy it too! Miss Matlin lets her interpreur do most of the actual speaking until just before the end, when she adresses the audieance briefly, it is net to view if you ever get the chance because she is very expresive in her signing of the Chritmas Story. Merry Christmas Happy Chanukah and Happy Holidays in any form you celebrate it! Comments[0] |

In July of 2007 I put out an Independence Day show using the patriotic songs the Voices of Liberty did during my trip in June of that year, I knew at the time that I wanted to put the other songs from those sets into some kind of a show, and here it FINALLY is!
links
songsThe Voices of LibertyThese songs were all recorded on June 16 and 17 of 2007, if you would like to see the original line up of the sets you can check the lists of the sets in the trip report, http://www.bigbrian-nc.com/trindex.htm#06.07 as the list here will be of the ones in the episode. The photos and song lists for the sets are on pages 18,19,and 20 for the date of the 16th, and the those related to the sets I heard on the 17th are on pages 32, 33, and 35...man I took a lot of pictures that trip!
SELECTED PHOTOSBelow: I don't have a perfect photo that caught the whole group on the 16th but this one comes close, Krista was conducting this day.
Below: While on the 17th Dirk was conducting (one gentleman is not visable in this veiw, but it was the closest I had to the whole group in one shot that day.
Ray had the the solo on Rockytop, Tennessee (also on Black Is The Color Of My True Loves Hair)
Dirk, the conductor on sunday the 17th, ( pictured above )did the solo on the version of Oh Susanah that played in this episode, yet that was the only one of the three soloists who did this song where I did not get a "Susanah picture" where the soloist picks a lady out of the audience to be his Susanah, so here are the other two. First heres JC
actually I got TWO photos when Ray did his...
...it's too bad that the third shot didn't fire that would have been "the tug".

Fri, 10 October 2008 I listen to A LOT of Disney podcasts, and usually a podcast that "occasioanlly" talks about Disney just won't stay on my plylist for very long, there is ONE notable exception to that though, I've been listening to Comedy4Cast for a long time now, since back in the low double digits, (he recently published episode 151 ) and recently I had the opportunity to finish something his show inspired me to start a while back. It all goes back to a running gag about milestones in podasting and how a lot of folks make a big deal about episode 50 or episode 100 well Clinton didn't make a milestone out of episode 100, he celebrated a TRUE milestone instead...episode 103, well my mind tends to think in musical terms and the mention of episode 103 triggered an idea for me and in fairly short order I had some lyrics written down, and even took a couple of stabs at recording, BUT I kept flubbing the lyrics AND it occurred to me as I was recording that Clinton only uses POD SAFE MUSIC, royalty free stuff, so as I ran out of time to record that day that project went to the back burner, and it stayed there a LOOOOONG time, several episodes back Clinton introduced a new concept the virtual table of random things, which has been a GREAT way of getting fun, interesting, humorous feedback from his audience BOTH via email AND by the Super Secret Phone Line (360) 515-0004 (But DON'T tell anyone shhh! it's a secret), well it finally dawned on me that I could leave a virtual CD of this tribute to Clinton show on the Virtual table and host the audio in my libsyn account (but without publishing it to my podcast feed, since it's not an episode of my podcast) so without further adieu...

(she works two days a week in a sort of semi-retirement position), or are they getting rid of Leon Gregory?", it then occurred to me that perhaps there was another option too perhaps they would add some earlier sets, I then realized in the current economic climate that was quite unlikely, and when I got the opportunity to chat with some other fans asked if any of them had heard what the story was, unfortunately it turns out they are getting rid of Leon, in fact his last day has come and gone. Unfortunately times of unemployment seem to be an unavoidable fact of life for most musicians. You know, when you think about it Walt Disney World allows an almost unheard of opportunity for musicians to have regular work without having to travel. I'll miss Leon and hope he lands on his feet, and with his talent and experience, think that he may have a better chace at that than most folks would in his situation, with some luck I may get to hear him play again someday. As for Carol I only caught her once, as for me I only made my first trip to the Comedy Warehouse for the first time last December (and decided I needed to visit it more on future trips, oh well, so much for that!) even from that brief exposure it was clear she is one talented individual. So the next time I'm at the pub in the Great Brittan Pavilion I'll enjoy Carol (or Pam Brodie if it is one of her days) but I'll pause and think of Leon Gregory in a silent toast to him. As I recounted on this episode I first saw Leon perform on the "Trip without a camera" (Celebration 25), but the set in this episode was recorded a few weeks later when I was on a trip where I was able to stop and listen for a full set (RADP 12). links The Let's Talk About Disney Forums: http://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/index.php The Mousin it up! subsection of LTAD http://www.letstalkaboutdisney.com/LTADForum/forumdisplay.php?f=64 The Yahoo group for the bigbrian-nc.com site and NC Disney news is at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/disneypodcast/ Steve Soares fine site of WDW entertainment schedules: http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/ songs The Extraordinary Leon Gregory
